Lots of colon’s there eh? I’m starting a new segment where I put up a recommendation of a game that I personally have been playing and find it fun. It’s a thinking game for sure with a healthly sprinkling of WW2 action to make you sit down and not want to stop playing.Yes,the genre is getting stale, but Brothers in Arms manages to keep you entertained. The storyline is confusing if you haven’t played the other games, but the gameplay seems to override those issues.

It’s definitely worth a rental. Just give it a shot, you might be surprised.

There will be a lot of info on the LBP betas today from multiple sources.Gamespot should be sending out invites.1up will have info on their beta keys.Perhaps,IGN also. The official LBP site will also have Beta news available.

Now,does anyone have a spare Beta key? I’m hoping to win one from the Gamespot contest myself.

Burnout Paradise(PS3)Trophies not Retro,no problem! September 29, 2008

When I first heard that Trophies weren’t going to be retro,my first reaction was to think that playing Burnout Paradise again wouldn’t be any fun.I was very wrong in that regard.I downloaded the patch and basically 3 hours later had a third of the trophies. All the while,I was enjoying playing the game again.

In the grand scheme of things, you can’t really be irritated with Criterion for not making trophies retroactive. They have continued to release free content and patches for months and basically taken a stab at retailers too,by making the full game available on the PSN. They have taken a game and given it new life again.Over 960k people were playing it the other day according to the Newsfeed in the game. If every company followed this mindset, gamers would be in a world of bliss.

One has to wonder what Criterion has been planning. Is it a way to develop a loyal fanbase that will follow to the next game? Perhaps, but whatever the reason,Criterion has made another fan in myself.Well done!

A good week for Playstation 3 Fans September 28, 2008

This week saw a pretty good week for us Playstation fans.We got the awesome Wipeout HD and the trophy patch for Burnout Paradise.Yes,sadly it’s not retroactive, but it doesn’t take long to chalk up trophies in Burnout.I played for about 3 hours and have 33 so far.

Wipeout is a beautiful game and at a very low price of $20 bucks,I can’t see a reason to not purchase it. I have never really been a Wipeout fan,but the game looks and plays like a dream.I’m really impressed with it so far and I’m going to spend more time with it tomorrow.

The PSN store also came with many demos and two PSP games.I guess Sony is really starting to pick things up in that regard.PSN cards are also becoming readily available, making purchasing a breeze now.

That’s not all. The betas for LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2(Europeans only) are starting to come out and Resistance 2 shouldn’t be very far behind.I sent in a email to Gamespot,so I’m hoping I can get a Beta invite as early as next week. Here’s to hoping!

PSN Cards do exist..at Blockbuster at least. September 23, 2008

So,I live in a pretty rural area in North Carolina. Probably about 35 mins from Raleigh and I wanted to see if we had any PSN cards in the local area.I was aware from the official blog that PSN cards would be out at Blockbuster, but assuming where I lived,it wouldn’t be for a while.

I assumed very wrong. In fact, the local Blockbuster has probably about 150 or more cards of the $20 and $50 denominations. This is fantastic news for those of us,who have a credit card that doesn’t work on the PSN for some reason or you have been using prepaid Visa cards.

I went ahead and plunked down my $20(should have gotten another) for Wipeout HD this week.I just hope we can see these out in the open in more retail stores like Gamestop or Walmart.

Well, this week is going to be a busy one.I’m trying to get all the money I can in Fable Pub games in preparation for playing the RPG pretty soon.I’ll have more on that later.

Last week I went through and beat Star Wars:The Force Unleashed and found it better than most reviews, but the game did have some flaws. It’s definitely worth a look at if you a fan of the genre.I’ll be playing Wipeout HD on the PS3 and giving Lego Batman and Brothers in Arms a quick run though on 360.

So,stay tuned towards the end of the week. Thanks

Why Nintendo’s Storage could be a online option. September 19, 2008

According to this article posted a few weeks back,Nintendo is working on a solution for storing your virtual console games and it isn’t a HDD. We know Nintendo has dropped some money on the development or to at least look at Holographic storage in the future. But,the most likely idea is a online storage capacity using current tech.

The Wii is limited to 512mb flash memory so once you’ve downloaded some Virtual Console games or Wii Ware you are out of space and will have to delete those games to make room for more.Nintendo could in effect setup each user their own “Wii Games Locker” where the games could be stored instead of having to delete the game entirely.

You could then bring over some of your older games and move games around and still keep them, but without having to go through the hassle of downloading the whole game completely.Still,it’s not the most ideal solution, but I think Nintendo’s going to start limiting it’s perpherials and building a new HDD storage solution doesn’t seem to be the plan.

From the previews of SWTFU,you wouldn’t expect much.I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down last night and played it for several hours. If your a fan of Star Wars, then this is one of the better games to show up in quite a while. Although, there are some technical issues with the game and a few plot points that make you go” What the hell?” You’ll certainly be entertained with the game.

 Pros:

The graphics are pretty impressive and the locales are pretty varied

The Storyline so far(little over half way through) is one of the better I’ve seen ,save for a few moments

The powers and upgrade system are fun. It’s a blast just whacking the Wookies!

Plenty of enemies and nods to the Star Wars Universe

 The Cutscenes are excellent!

Cons

Glitches. Yes,there are some glitches. Fighting at a point in the Junkyard planet the game wouldn’t save,so I played it over and over for 8 times till it did.I almost broke a controller.

Some enemies are resistant to the Force? Never heard of this.Wow

The difficulty ramps up quick later.Which isn’t that bad really.

So,in short,If you are a Star Wars fan, then I would probably pick up the game. It’s not a amazing game, but it is a very title to play.In fact,I’ve had more fun moments in playing this game than many others in quite a while.I’ll give it a B- right now at where I’m at,but I might revise it as I finish it up .I’m still enjoying it though.

Something I heard and I guess it really makes sense in a way. That PSP releases in 09 would hit retail and the PSN network at the same time. I’m just filing this under rumour, but I also heard Shane say the same thing on the 1up yours podcast.

Have I missed a news release? This would be great news and eventually a way to get away from the UMD format with the prices of the Pro Duo cards going down. You can get a 4gb card for $20 from www.buy.com when they have their sale running.
