Is it time for Xbox Live to be free? July 26, 2008

Recently,Microsoft made all of the features free to PC gamers.Undoubtly to increase the appeal of PC gaming which has taken a PR hit in the last couple years.Is it time to do the same thing for Console players?
Sony currently offers it’s Playstation Network free of charge.It mostly likely makes up the costs in advertising and costs of companies to list items on the store.It’s also one of the key benefits that Sony offers over Xbox Live.Is this a sign of things to come and will Live become free?
My belief is that it won’t.Microsoft has done well by Live with a good amount of content and a great service along with little downtime.Add in the fact,that many users simply don’t mind paying the cost of Live to insure a good reliable service and I think the most Live users could hope for would be a price reduction.
Any change in the future might be related to how the 360 is performing in sales though..

and I’m a big Infinity Ward/COD 4 fan..
I’m not a great Gears player or anything like that.In fact,I was so terrible at playing the multiplayer part of the game that I just gave up. But,after seeing all of the info,videos and general badassery that the Cliffster,Dude Huge or whatever you want to call Cliff has been showing.I can honestly,say that Gears is going to take over the top spot of Live in November.
Gears still only has 2 player co-op.But,there are new weapons,mp tweaks and the single player campaign really really looks amazing.I really like Epic and maybe it’s because their locals or something..But,they are putting together a much better sequel to Gears than I could have expected.The playthrough of the single player campaign that is out showed numerous types of enemies and set pieces .Hopefully, a lot less of the kill all the enemies to open the door type scenarios this time.
Also from what I’ve heard,Epic is really working to eliminate Host advantage from the previous incarnation of Gears.Great idea..I never played it enough to find out,but it seemed to be a common problem. They are also including a 5 player mode called Horde which has you and four other friends fighting waves and waves of Locust.I think their QA testers have only made it into the 25-30 level an it goes to 52.
New weapons,New enemies,New modes,New Characters..Looks like this is going to be a exciting game and probably the best thing Microsoft has releasing this fall/winter.

Everybody and their mother knows that Square Enix is making FFX111 for 360 now.It’s only being made in English territories and not being released in Japan on 360.I’m guessing that has to do with Microsoft’s terrible 360 sales in Japan. No way this was a surprise for the Sony inner circle,but definitely a blow to the Final Fantasy PS3 fans. Is it the death of Sony? No. Today is Sony’s chance to make it up,so we’ll see.Personally,I do not care as I’m not a big fan of JRPGs and these days,exclusives are going the way of the dinosaur unless you are owned by that console maker.
Halo Wars slips to 09.Not really a surprise,but it’s looking better.I may be interested.
Lips is a Singstaresque game that will incorporate your own music that you can sing along with.Interesting
The 360 is getting a dashboard change in the fall with new functions such as Wii Mii like Avatars,Photos,party system.Impressive!!
Bethesdas(my boys!)title Fallout 3 will have exclusive 360 DLC.(I’m a little sad as I wanted to pick this up on PS3)
Gears of War still on 2 player co-op,but 5 player MP online.
XBLA News Geometry Wars 2,Galaga Remake,OG Banjo Kazooie,Uno Rush
Rockband 2 is a “timed”exclusive.Don’t worry PS3 folks you’ll get it like a month later
Netflix joins the 360.You need Live and a Netflix membership,nothing else
Fable 2 comes in October(still have to wait to see this happen)
360 gets a 60gb sku at the old Pro 20gb price of $349
Well,that’s just a little summary.Sony and Nintendo’s Pressers come out today,so we’ll see what bombs they drop and they will..
