I can’t remember the last time I sat down with a game and just smiled the entire time while playing it.That was until I got my hands on the LittleBigPlanet Beta.Clearly,Sony and Media Molecule have made a hit on their hands.

I won’t go into a lot of depth because it is a Beta and the finale game will have a lot more in it,but the polish that the game shows in the Beta is astounding. This is a feature title for sure and Sony should be marketing it as much as possible. It’s the first game I’ve seen that gives you updates on what your friends are doing in levels in realtime along with what is happening to your creations. It’s easy to play a co-op level and the tools are just simply amazing.

In short,I would be utterly amazed if this isn’t the number one title on the Playstation 3 and I advise any of you wary of trying a platformer to go now and pre-order.You will not be let down.

There will be a lot of info on the LBP betas today from multiple sources.Gamespot should be sending out invites.1up will have info on their beta keys.Perhaps,IGN also. The official LBP site will also have Beta news available.

Now,does anyone have a spare Beta key? I’m hoping to win one from the Gamespot contest myself.

This week saw a pretty good week for us Playstation fans.We got the awesome Wipeout HD and the trophy patch for Burnout Paradise.Yes,sadly it’s not retroactive, but it doesn’t take long to chalk up trophies in Burnout.I played for about 3 hours and have 33 so far.

Wipeout is a beautiful game and at a very low price of $20 bucks,I can’t see a reason to not purchase it. I have never really been a Wipeout fan,but the game looks and plays like a dream.I’m really impressed with it so far and I’m going to spend more time with it tomorrow.

The PSN store also came with many demos and two PSP games.I guess Sony is really starting to pick things up in that regard.PSN cards are also becoming readily available, making purchasing a breeze now.

That’s not all. The betas for LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2(Europeans only) are starting to come out and Resistance 2 shouldn’t be very far behind.I sent in a email to Gamespot,so I’m hoping I can get a Beta invite as early as next week. Here’s to hoping!

PSN Cards do exist..at Blockbuster at least. September 23, 2008

So,I live in a pretty rural area in North Carolina. Probably about 35 mins from Raleigh and I wanted to see if we had any PSN cards in the local area.I was aware from the official blog that PSN cards would be out at Blockbuster, but assuming where I lived,it wouldn’t be for a while.

I assumed very wrong. In fact, the local Blockbuster has probably about 150 or more cards of the $20 and $50 denominations. This is fantastic news for those of us,who have a credit card that doesn’t work on the PSN for some reason or you have been using prepaid Visa cards.

I went ahead and plunked down my $20(should have gotten another) for Wipeout HD this week.I just hope we can see these out in the open in more retail stores like Gamestop or Walmart.

Just a little reminder that Wipeout HD will be on the PSN for the US and Europe on Sept 25th.I believe it’s going to be $19.99 which is nothing, but a great value. Blockbuster also has PSN cards available now in $20 and $50.I’m going to the local one and check it out today.

Looks like Sony will be introducing a PSP firmware update that will allow you to access the PSP store from your Playstation Portable. No more hooking up to your PC or downloading via your PS3.Finally,this will cut out a step and make it a little easier to access content on the go.
Also,Sony is looking into making your ad hoc PSP game playable online via the PS3.This will be limited to certain titles and seems to be related to Japan in the beginning.I expect this to hit worldwide though shortly.

Will Microsoft get their update out before Sony releases Home? August 22, 2008

We all know that Microsoft will be update the dashboard in the fall.Sony is due to release the public Beta for Home in November if all goes right. They are ramping up the invites to the private betas now,so they may try to get Home a little earlier, but I feel it will still be November.

Microsofts’ update for Avatars (this is me taking a guess) will probably be in hand before the end of October. Will it be that big of a deal vs Home? I don’t think so. I do think that it’s a psychologial deal for Microsoft to be the first one to release a social gaming update, but I think Sony’s idea is much more broader and will have a larger impact on the way Playstation gamers use their PS3.

While I think many PS3 owners are looking forward to Home finally releasing,I don’t hear many 360 owners clamoring for the Avatars.Maybe that will change after it releases.(I’m looking forward to the 1vs100 game myself).I guess we’ll just have to see if Kaz’s decision to push back Home was really worth it.
