According to this article posted a few weeks back,Nintendo is working on a solution for storing your virtual console games and it isn’t a HDD. We know Nintendo has dropped some money on the development or to at least look at Holographic storage in the future. But,the most likely idea is a online storage capacity using current tech.

The Wii is limited to 512mb flash memory so once you’ve downloaded some Virtual Console games or Wii Ware you are out of space and will have to delete those games to make room for more.Nintendo could in effect setup each user their own “Wii Games Locker” where the games could be stored instead of having to delete the game entirely.

You could then bring over some of your older games and move games around and still keep them, but without having to go through the hassle of downloading the whole game completely.Still,it’s not the most ideal solution, but I think Nintendo’s going to start limiting it’s perpherials and building a new HDD storage solution doesn’t seem to be the plan.

Wii Games should use the Wii control scheme July 28, 2008

Yes,I’m looking at you Super Smash Brother Brawl.
I’m fairly new to the Wii world myself,so I decided to try it out.The game is fun,but it wasn’t designed with the Wii controller in mind. It looks like the ideal controller would be the Gamecube.
My question is why? No new games that are released on the Wii should be using a older controller as the main way to play. You can use the Wii controller, but it’s just awkward.People buy Wii games to use Wii controls and it’s just not prevalent in Super Smash Bros. Great Game with a poor control setup.

5 Things I need for the Wii July 26, 2008

1. Harddrive space.I don’t want a big bulky add-on so heres a idea.Make a HD add on into the shape of the stand for the Wii.It won’t look at different and provide what the users want.Make it at least 20gb

2. Make the DS a useful option: Allow some interconnectivty. Could I use a DS game to interact within a Wii game.Could you take a character from the DS and use into the Wii? Nintendogs and Animal crossing could work. Maybe Super Mario Bros included in a level?

3. Mario World: Yes,it’s my title. Take the share, create, play from LittleBigPlanet and put it in the Mario setting. Imagine user uploaded Mario levels with Bowser fights? Get on it!

4. You have Wii-Motion: Get with Lucasarts and make the best damn 1:1 lightsaber game you can make.

5. Wii Bowling:World Tour Yes,another title from me. Take the gameplay of Wii bowling, add online multiplayer, leaderboard,a robust single player season and custom outfits for your Miis..Easy seller

The “Wii Heritage Theory”explained. July 25, 2008

I put this into a post on Kotaku about Epic using Unreal 4 in a possible Nintendo Console in the future(2012-2018).Some people tend to think that Nintendo won’t go HD in the future or it’ll be under spec.My little theory I called the “Wii Heritage Theory”explains my thoughts on this.

I’m fairly confident Nintendo is already planning the next console. It’ll have HD,a nice sized Hardrive plus the motion controls of the Wii.Nintendo has been conservative on their pricing on the Wii in order to make money, unlike Microsoft and Sony who have been losing money on their consoles.Nintendo is establishing a large base that associates fun and entertainment with the name “Wii”.Nintendo also knows they will have to go into the HD business sooner or later.

They will establish the large base and then setup the “Wii HD” to take on Sony and Microsoft at their own game. The console might not  have the total features of the next Playstation or Xbox but it’ll be close to what the current PS3 has installed with better graphics.

Basically, this is what Sony has been hoping that they can accomplish with bringing over the 120 million plus PS2 owners to PS3.I just can’t see how people think that the Wii in it’s current form won’t be changed within 4-5 years. I just think it’s something Nintendo has been planning once the Wii took off.

Well, looking at the total NPD sales figures,Nintendo has taken the total console sales lead away from Microsoft. It’s amazing how many Wii’s are sold every month and yet you still can’t find one.Sony sold almost twice as many PS3s as Microsoft sold 360s.

  • DS – 783k
  • Wii – 666.7k
  • PlayStation 3 – 405.5k
  • PSP – 337.4k
  • Xbox 360 – 219.8k
  • PS2 – 188.8k
